C.J.S. Hayward

An Orthodox apologist interested in vibrant human life in troubled technological times.

This is the Substack for C.J.S. Hayward, who studied math and then theology, is an Eastern Orthodox apologist formed by C.S. Lewis among others, and has general interest in patristic theology and in particular what Orthodox ascesis has to give to us who are living in such a technological world.

This last point distinguishes him from e.g. Nicholas Carr The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains, which offer an incisive critique of a problem but offer very little towards a practical solution.

C.J.S. Hayward has made his works available for free from cjshayward.com and offers free and paid options for some of his best works from cjshayward.com/books.

Those are meant to remain free, but especially now as his main income has been confiscated by Social Security Disability bureaucrats, it allows you to do three things:

1. Support him by the modest amount of $5 per month.

2. Obtain additional introductions and discussion questions to a new post each week, for as long as his store of good posts lasts (which is a lot).

3. Discuss his works with other community members.
